Thief steals around $35,000 worth of trading cards from Signal Hill business, police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect

SINGAL HILL, Calif. (KABC) — Surveillance video showed an act of burglary that happened around 2 a.m. Wednesday. A suspect broke into a trading card store called Finch and Sparrow Games on 28th Street, according to the Signal Hill Police Department. The thief took thousands of dollars worth of cards.

“They slipped a shelf full of cards. It was around 60 cards. Some older cards were 20-25 years old. Some newer ones which are just special, promotional, shiny releases. Total loss is around 35 $000,” Michael said. Aust, game store owner.

Aust said the Reaver took some of the store’s most eye-catching cards.

“The person who came in, they specifically went to an area of our storefront. They knew what they wanted to do. Either went there or they were directed in some way,” Aust said.

This is not the first time a theft has occurred at the store. In January, a man walked into the store while it was open and asked to see a valuable card worth over $40,000. The suspect then exited the store and drove off in a getaway car. The card has not yet been retrieved.

“Now we’re going to have to implement more potentially customer-unfriendly policies, more security measures,” Aust said.

So far, no arrests have been made. Police are still reviewing surveillance videos and evidence left at the scene. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Signal Hill Police Department.
